Chemical Use Interview
A Chemical Use Interview is the process through which the interviewer gathers accurate, usable information while validating the student, acknowledging culture, lifestyle, and values. Chemical Use Interview goals include:
- bring harm reduction into student lives
- provide services and help to assist students to successfully manage one’s life
- meet the student where they are at
- obtain a comprehensive history, vital to completion of an adequate Chemical Use Interview

Schedule and Attend
- Schedule a Chemical Use Interview by phone: 507-389-5689.
- Attend the Chemical Use Interview (allow for 2 hrs). This meeting will be held in the Health Education office, Room 100 of Carksoki Commons.
- Arrive on time.
- Appropriate participation and honesty are essential for the interview results to be valid.
- Appropriate behavior is required.
- Students under the influence of alcohol or other substances will be asked to leave and Campus Security will be summoned.
- Once the Interview is summarized you will be contacted to schedule a Follow-Up meeting to discuss the summary and recommendations.
- Attend the Follow-Up meeting (allow 1 hr). This meeting will be held in the Health Education office, Room 100 of Carksoki Commons.
- Information gathered during the Interview and Follow-Up meeting will not be shared with anyone unless you sign an Alcohol and Drug Disclosure Release of Information Form.
- Referral staff will be notified of your completion or failure to complete. No other information will be relayed to this person.
- Certain information is mandated by state law to report, such as intent to harm yourself or another.
Pay the $220.00 program fee
- A $220 program fee will be posted to your student account. You may pay the fee online or at the Cashiers Office, 128 Wigley Administration Center.
Please Note:
- Referral staff will be notified of your completion or failure to complete. No other information will be relayed to this person.
- Refer to your outcome letter or contact your referral staff person for questions regarding your assigned deadline.
- Failure to complete your sanction by the assigned deadline will result in a hold placed on registration and future enrollment.
