Patient Confidentiality
Under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, all medical records and protected health information are confidential and will be transferred to another person/facility only by the student's request and signed release. We respect students' right to privacy and will not give any information to anyone, including parents, roommates, friends, instructors, or administrators. If you have a Privacy-Related Concern that occurred at Student Health Services, please complete the HIPAA Complaint Form.

What information can be seen on my patient portal? As of July 1st, 2021, patients at Student Health Services are able to see some visit notes and lab results dated July 1st, 2021 or later on their patient portal. Medical records from earlier dates are available by submitting a Release of Information form.
What billing information is found on E-services after an appointment at Student Health Services? Any charges not paid by health insurance will be posted to the student E-services account. If clinic charges are not submitted to insurance for payment, office visits, lab tests and/or pharmacy charges will be posted to the student E-services account. The E-services bill description does not include detailed information about the visit but lists charges and fees incurred during the visit by service area: office, lab, pharmacy, etc. To view your bill, log on to E-services and select Bills and Payment
If my parent/guardian has my patient portal password, will they be able to see information about my clinic visits? Yes. If a parent/guardian has a student patient portal password they can see more detailed visit notes, lab results, and any future or past appointments.
Can I be seen at Student Health Services without the appointment or charges showing on E-services? Yes. Patients can choose to pay out-of-pocket at the time of the appointment if they do not want charges from a visit to appear on E-services.
If I buy condoms at Student Health Services and charge the cost to my E-services account, would details about my purchase show on my E-services bill? No. Condom purchases are described as a pharmacy charge on E-services.
If my visit to Student Health Services is billed to my health insurance, will my parent or guardian see the reason for my visit? Possibly. Most insurance companies provide an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) to the policyholder. For many students, the health insurance policyholder is a parent or guardian. The EOB provides visit details. To find out if an EOB is provided to the policyholder and what type of details about visits are included, call the customer service number found on the back of your insurance card.
