Mayo Clinic - Mankato
Location: 1025 Marsh St., Mankato, MN 56001
Hours: Emergency Department, 24/7

The Mayo Clinic in Mankato (Emergency Department) has a Sexual Assault Response Team that operates 24 hours a day, every day out of the year. This includes a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) who can complete a forensic exam (more commonly known as a sexual assault exam) to anyone impacted by sexual violence and/or relationship abuse. An advocate will also respond to provide you with support. While it is best to have a forensic exam as soon as possible following an assault, it may be completed, with accuracy, up to 7-10 days afterwards.

Forensic exams are free for all patients. The cost of the exam is paid for by the county where the assault occurred. However, if any additional medical care is needed outside the regular services of the exam, the patient/their insurance will be billed. For help with cost of additional medical services, an advocate can provide information on Minnesota Crime Victim Reparations, which compensates victims of crimes for medical (including follow up mental health) costs if the crime was reported to law enforcement. All that being said, it is the patient’s choice whether law enforcement is called to the hospital to take a report. A hospital or advocate should never make that decision for you.

An evidence collection kit will be stored, confidentially, for up to 2.5 years. If not subpoenaed during that time, an extension can be requested.
