Student Government Elections

The 2025 Student Government Election will take place online from 8:00 AM on Monday, April 7, through 6:00 PM on Tuesday, April 8.

A President/Vice President Candidate Forum and an informational forum regarding proposed increases to the Student Activity Fee and Intercollegiate Athletics Fee will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2, in the Hearth Lounge of the Centennial Student Union.

According to the Student Government Constitution, elections will take place annually and include the second (2nd) Tuesday in April. Students will be able to run for open seats and will be able to vote for candidates who will represent them. The election will be online from 8am-6pm, and can be accessed at mnsu.edu/voting. First year students ARE eligible to hold office and are encouraged to step up into these important leadership roles, as are any other students who feel that they can bring a good voice to the table.

Students may apply to be a candidate in the 2025 Student Government election starting January 13, 2025.  Applications to run for President and Vice-President are due by Monday, March 24, 2025. Applications to run for Senate or Board Positions are due by Monday, March 31, 2025.

Campaigning may begin on a date to be determined.

Rules readings for the 2025 Student Government election will be hosted at dates and times to be determined.

The 2025 Elections are held to for the purpose of electing the President, the Vice-President, the Senators, and representatives for Student Boards.

The 2024-2025 Senate seats are listed below. Dependent upon declared majors in the academic colleges, these numbers may be slightly adjusted on an annual basis.

  • 5 seats for students residing in Residential Life-managed properties
  • 8 seats for students residing Off-Campus
  • 4 seats for students with declared majors in the College of Allied Health & Nursing
  • 3 seats for a student with a declared major in the College of Humanities & Social Sciences
  • 2 seats for a student with a declared major in the College of Business
  • 1 seat for a student with a declared major in the College of Education
  • 2 seats for students with declared majors in the College of Graduate Studies
  • 3 seats for a student with a declared major in the College of Science, Engineering, & Technology
  • 2 seats for an "At-Large" Senator. This seat is open to any student, with any major, living on or off campus.

The following Student Board positions are available:

  • 4 members of the Newspaper Board
  • 2 members of the Centennial Student Union Board
  • 2 members of the Student Health Services Fee Advisory Commission
  • 2 members of the Athletics Fee Advisory Commission
