Summer Financial Aid Information

Students may qualify for financial aid as a resource for summer term costs. While the availability of some programs differs for summer term versus the academic year (fall/spring semesters) and a separate financial aid award is provided for summer term, many of the processes are the same.

Summer term financial aid awards typically become available starting early April.

You will receive a financial aid award if you:

Register for summer term course(s), and
Have a completed and processed 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) with Minnesota State University, Mankato
Important note about MN State Grant for Summer: No Minnesota State Grant funding is available for the Summer 2025 term for any student.

It is recommended that you register for all summer term courses at once, regardless of start date. Enrollment changes may change your financial aid eligibility.

If you submitted a 2024-2025 FAFSA to a different school, please update your FAFSA with the Minnesota State Mankato school code 002360.

There is a hard deadline of June 30, 2025 to submit your 2024-2025 FAFSA.

If you graduated from a Minnesota high school but do not meet the citizenship requirements to complete the FAFSA go to the Minnesota Office of Higher Education website for possible financial aid resources through the State of Minnesota.

Note: When you log in to e-services navigate to the Financial Aid Awards page be sure the term displays as Summer 2025. If not, select Change Semester and select Summer 2025 from the drop-down menu, then click on the Change Semester button to see the message, “Semester successfully changed.” Then navigate back to the Financial Aid Awards page.

How Enrollment Impacts Financial Aid Eligibility

Summer term is equivalent to one academic semester. Your eligibility is determined based on the number of credits for which you are enrolled, and is prorated for less than full-time enrollment. The financial aid cost of attendance (budget) is also initially set at the cost of attendance for the full 10-week period for summer term and may be decreased if the timespan for all courses is less than 10 weeks.

Undergraduate students must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 undergraduate level credit hours to qualify to borrow Federal Direct student/parent loans (Subsidized, Unsubsidized, Parent PLUS).

Graduate students must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 graduate level credit hours to qualify to borrow Federal Direct student loans (Unsubsidized, Graduate PLUS).

If you change your registration, your financial aid eligibility may change. If you receive financial aid and make enrollment changes that reduce your eligibility, you may be required to repay the University for funds returned to aid programs.

If you drop/withdraw/stop attending any of your courses during summer term and you are enrolled in a summer term course that has not yet begun, the University may be required to reduce your financial aid. If you still plan to attend a short course that has not yet begun, you must provide confirmation of your planned attendance in writing by sending an email from your University email account to the Campus Hub at campushub@mnsu.edu. In the email, indicate your name, Tech ID/Star ID, and the name of the course(s) you will be attending that start later in the summer term. If this email is not provided to the Campus Hub prior to the first day of the future course(s), the University will assume you are not attending the future course(s) and your financial aid may be reduced.

Enrolling at Another School

If you are planning on registering for summer courses at another school and you are seeking financial aid through Minnesota State University, Mankato for that course(s), a Consortium Agreement must be requested. This form is used to determine financial aid eligibility for courses that are applicable to your degree program at Minnesota State University, Mankato. The consortium agreement is approved on an individual, course-specific basis; no financial aid is disbursed to the student for enrollment at another school without an approved Consortium Agreement. Important Dates & Deadlines

Review all of the summer term important dates when they become available.

May 23, 2025 Federal Pell Grant eligibility is based on enrollment level as of the end of the fifth day of the semester
May 30, 2025 Disbursement of summer financial aid funds begins.
June 11, 2025 Deadline to submit appeals to reinstate financial aid suspended for failure to meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Standards.
July 18, 2025 Deadline for all summer term federal Direct loans to be approved and certified.
