Outdoor Equipment Rentals

Maverick Adventures Outdoor Rentals offers a variety of outdoor equipment to outfit your adventures year-round. Rentals are open to students and the community. Current MSU students receive a discounted rental rate.

Outdoor Equipment Rental Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday from 4-6pm*  

*During the academic year. Alternate pickup times can be coordinated through a Rental Request.

Outdoor Rentals Policies & Procedures

 

Making a Reservation: 

  • Individuals interested in renting equipment should complete a rental request or visit Myers Field House 130 during open hours.  
  • Rental requests must be submitted at least 2 business days before desired rental date.  
  • Completion of this form does not guarantee equipment availability. A staff member will respond with confirmation of available equipment and appointment details. 
  • Group rates and alternate appointment times can be coordinated by making a note in your rental request or contacting adventure@mnsu.edu.  
  • The customer must be 18 years of age and present a photo ID upon pick up. 

Picking up Equipment: 

  • Equipment rentals will be picked up and returned to Myers Field House 130 during Outdoor Rental hours or by appointment. 
  • The customer paying for the rental must complete a waiver and rental agreement.  
  • Full payment will be collected at pick-up. Fees for damaged, missing, or late equipment will be assessed at time of return. 
  • Each customer will receive a brief equipment orientation for first-time rentals.  
  • An appointment must be made ahead of time for canoe rentals. Pickup occurs at an alternate location and requires the customer to have a vehicle for transportation.  
  • It is the customer’s responsibility to check all equipment for damage or missing parts at the time of rental. 

Equipment Use:

  • It is the customer's responsibility to use equipment only as intended and to inform all other users of expectations and safety guidelines.
  • It is the customer’s responsibility to acquire all necessary permits for outdoor recreation activities. This includes fishing licenses, campsite rentals, vehicle permits, etc.
  • It is the customer’s responsibility to follow all state and federal guidelines for equipment use and safety procedures on land and water.
  • Contact the Minnesota DNR for more information on recreation guidelines & permits.

Returning Equipment: 

  • The rented equipment should be returned in the same condition as it was checked out; clean, dry, and all parts included. 
  • See below for late, cleaning, and missing equipment fees. 

Fees: 

  • Late returns will be charged to the customer at the daily rate until the equipment is returned or the charge reaches the replacement cost.  
  • All equipment must be returned dry and clean or a minimum $5 per item cleaning fee will be charged.  
  • Damaged equipment will be inspected by the Program Coordinator. The customer will be invoiced up to the repair/replacement cost of all broken, lost, or stolen equipment.  
  • Customers with unpaid fees will be prohibited from future rentals until paid.
  • At the end of each semester, unpaid fees for current MSU students will be charged to their student account and must be paid before graduation.

Rental Cancellations: 

  • Cancellations of rental requests should be made by emailing adventure@mnsu.edu or calling 507-389-5435 in advance of the designated pick-up time. 
  • No charge for cancellations.
