Beyond the resources offered on campus for non-traditional students, there are a variety of community resources available that may serve nontraditional students as well. Below is a list of additional resources to address nontraditional students' needs.

Echo Food Shelf
Serving Blue Earth County and North Mankato residents. To register for assistance, attend in person and bring proof of identity (driver’s license or photo id). Once registered you can make an appointment to use the shelf and choose your items (similar to a grocery store). Each household can visit 12 times per year (July 1-June 30). If phones are busy, please keep trying walk-ins always welcome. Call to register or schedule an appointment.

Feeding our Communities Partners
A nonprofit organization focused on ending local hunger; they oversee the following programs:
- Backpack Food Program: serving over 900 area elementary students within Blue Earth County on weekends and during school breaks. Grades kindergarten to 5th grade.
- Power Pack Program: 6th to 8th grade who are in need of food during afterschool based activities and weekend relief.

Commodity Supplemental Foods Program (CSFP)
CSFP is a United States Department of Agriculture supplemental food and nutrition program that is designed to provide healthy and nutritious food each month at no cost to eligible individuals. NAPS is the name of CSFP in Minnesota.
Nutrition Assistance Program for Seniors (NAPS): Men and women over age 60. Provides a monthly food package.
Food for All
Food for All is our food program that is funded by the proceeds from the Neighborhood Thrift Store. Everyone is welcome to attend with no paperwork necessary. The cost is $5 cash per family and you will need to bring a basket, box or tote to carry your food. We have a group of volunteers available to help carry the food to your vehicle upon request. We purchase the food for this program locally and serve the Greater Mankato Area, keeping all of our proceeds and service local. Food for All program distribution takes place the second Saturday of each month; while distribution begins at 9:30 AM, guests are welcome to arrive at 8:30 AM to line up early.

Hot Meals on Wheels
Dedicated VINE volunteers deliver a nutritious noon meal each weekday to people who find it difficult to shop for or prepare their meals. There are no age or income requirements; our program serves those in need of healthy nutrition. Meal recipients also benefit from a valuable safety check each day. If something is amiss, VINE staff quickly responds to get needed help.

City of Mankato Public Housing (Subsidized):
Mankato’s public housing is found throughout the city, rather than in one location or neighborhood. Public housing assists low-income people and families to live in subsidized housing managed by the city of Mankato. Program participants pay 30 percent of their income for rent and utilities.

The REACH Youth Drop-In Center
We offer a safe and supportive environment for teens and young adults.
Services offered at The REACH include: opportunities to learn independent living skills; job search; employment assistance; college preparation (i.e. applying for Educational Training Vouchers, FAFSA, and GED preparation) referrals to other community services, homelessness prevention and after-care services.

MN Department of Human Services- Housing and Homelessness programs
DHS works to ensure that appropriate housing is available for the people we serve by supporting systems that integrates housing, services and income supports to enable people to live in the community of their choice.
True Transit: Town Rural Urban Express Rural County-wide Public Transportation
True Transit is operated by Vine Faith in Action and serves Blue Earth, Nicollet, and Le Sueur Counties. It offers set routes where you can schedule a ride at least two business days in advance or up to one month in advance online or by telephone. Passengers are expected to follow TRUE transit rules.
Passenger fares on scheduled routes are $3 one-way. Rides outside scheduled routes please contact TRUE Transit and we will do our best to accommodate your request for a premium price calculated by millage starting at $6 per one-way trip.

People to Jobs
People to Jobs is a VINE program that coordinates employment and employment-related transportation for single parents, refugees, and other low-income workers. In addition, People to Jobs assists with transporting the young children of low-income workers to daycare when their parents go to work. People to Jobs is a six-month transitional program designed as a stepping stone to allow workers time to develop more permanent transportation solutions. Fares from riders cover a portion of the cost.

Open Door Health Center
Provides treatment for chronic and acute health conditions, preventive and restorative dental care for low-income, uninsured individuals and families living in the Greater Mankato area. Services include medical, dental and behavioral Health Services.
Individuals with high deductible insurance may be eligible for discounts based on our sliding fee system, taking into account their income and household size.

Counseling Services of Southern Minnesota
Counseling Services of Southern Minnesota was established in 1997 with a primary focus to serve children and families. Since that time the agency has added services for adults, couples, and psychological testing. Most recently the agency, with support of grants from the Department of Human Services, has added programming to serve infants and young children and provide services to children within area schools.

MSU, Mankato - Student Attorney
Students at Minnesota State University, Mankato have the right to free legal advice. The Student Association provides a licensed practicing attorney through funding from student activity fees. Offering legal advice to individual students and researching legal issues for student body governance are the most important functions of the Student's Attorney. The Student's Attorney advises and informs students and special interest groups at MSU-Mankato on a part-time basis. We also provide students with an in-person Student Attorney and phone consultations with an Immigration Attorney.
