a purple and yellow brainPsychology professors Dr. Emily Stark and Dr. Karla Lassonde have created an outreach site called “Psych in Your World!”

This department hosted video series features short lectures from psychology professors at Minnesota State University, Mankato with the goal of connecting with teachers of psychology at all levels.

This series began as a professional development opportunity for concurrent enrollment teachers in Southern Minnesota while working with Michael Altomari, Minnesota State Mankato director of postsecondary enrollment options. Passionate about making a positive impact on how University disciplines connect and educate students in the state of Minnesota, the three turned the project into an educational tool for not only instructors, but anyone looking to learn more about the vast field of psychology.

With the enormous amount of psychology-related information online the public is often left wondering about information credibility. The faculty in the Department of Psychology have important knowledge that can sometimes get lost in the enormous discipline. This series helps to solve both of those problems. In featured videos, our faculty present their expertise on highly relevant topics like social norms, motivation, and aging and mental health, just to name a few. In easy to digest sessions, people can browse videos topic while feeling confident in the accuracy of their information.

This outreach project is just one example of the commitment the Psychology Department at Minnesota State University, Mankato has made to raise public awareness of psychological science.

Psych in Your World is coordinated by Dr. Emily Stark and Dr. Karla Lassonde. For more information, contact Dr. Stark by phone at 507-389-5822 or email at emily.stark@mnsu.edu
