Kessel Peace Institute Remembers Dr. Martin Luther King's Mankato Visit

This month marks the 60th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr's visit to Mankato. On November 12, 1961, Dr. King gave two sermons at Centenary Methodist church and a lecture at Mankato West High School.

In honor of the anniversary, the Kessel Peace, a long with True Facade Pictures, is producing a 40-minute documentary to be released in full on MLK Day, 2022. The project received support from the College of Social and Behavioral Science, the College of Arts and Humanities, the College of Education, Institutional Diversity, African American Affairs, the Minnesota State University Library, the Department of Communications, and the Department of History. It features interviews from Minnesota State, Mankato faculty and administrators as well as community leaders, local educators and people who were at the speeches in 1961.

The trailer is available now. The film will be released in an event at West High School on January 17, 2022.
