Global Maverick Access Scholarship

Minnesota State University, Mankato is dedicated to creating global opportunities by supporting students from underrepresented countries. To help make higher education more accessible, Global Education is awarding 20 scholarships to first-year F-1 undergraduate students from targeted regions.

Each scholarship is valued at $4,000, distributed over four years of undergraduate study. In addition, recipients will receive personalized support to secure on-campus employment starting in their first semester.


Scholarship Requirements

All scholarship applicants must meet all of the following criteria to apply for the Global Maverick Access Scholarship:

  1. Admission to Minnesota State University in any undergraduate program.
  2. High School GPA of 3.5 or the equivalent.
  3. First-year student (no prior university study).
  4. Must have graduated from high school within 5 years of beginning undergraduate study at MSU.
  5. Be a citizen of one of the qualifying countries (eligible countries listed at the bottom).
If an applicant does not meet all five (5) requirements, they are not eligible for the Global Maverick Access Scholarship and their application will not be reviewed.

 

Scholarship Terms & Conditions

  1. Applicants must be applying for a fall intake and must apply for the scholarship by May 1st. Applicants will be notified of outcomes by May 15th.
  2. Scholarship recipients must enroll at Minnesota State University for the initial term in which they were admitted. If the recipient defers their application to a future term, they will forfeit the scholarship award.
  3. Scholarships are valued at $4,000. Recipients will receive $500 per semester for up to eight (8) semesters of undergraduate study at Minnesota State University. The award is directly credited to the student’s tuition and has no cash value.
  4. Scholarship recipients are eligible to list up to $1,000 of the Global Maverick Access Scholarship and $3,840 of on-campus employment on the funding section of their Form I-20. 
  5. If at any point in their undergraduate studies the student fails to maintain satisfactory academic progress standards (SAPS), they will forfeit any future scholarship funds.

Qualifying countries are determined by reviewing key international student markets with fewer than 10 enrolled undergraduate students at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Qualifying countries are subject to change.
