The final Grind-Fu Cinema of 2019 takes place on Saturday, October 19th, and it's the big daddy of Grind-Fu's.  What makes it so darn "big daddy"? First off, it's full contact Halloween love, so we're talking costumes, we're talking candy, we're talking terror, and we're talking cake!  This ain't just any sheetcake, though.  This is a gruesome Halloween themed cake!  It will be just as delicious as it is horrifying, and it'll be tied into the movies we're showing.

House of 1000 Corpses (2003)
Directed by Rob Zombie

Rob Zombie built his entire career off mining B-movies and horror comics, and he has been one heck of an art director when it comes to album art, video directing, and stage design. It seemed only natural that he'd make the migration to directing films, and it was no surprise that when he did direct that the movies went ALL THE WAY with the gore and terror.

Zombie's first movie was House of 1000 Corpses, which is the first movie we'll be screening at the October Grind-Fu.  It's a wild and colorful excursion into the freaky world of sideshows and back roads creepiness, and it borrows heavily from its influences.  Indeed, the influences are practically shoved down your throat, but the movie is so entertaining and grotesque that it's not even distracting.  Rob Zombie is clearly having a blast, which makes House of 1000 Corpses an awful lot of fun.

The cast is great.  B-movie legends Sid Haig and Bill Mosely give insane performances, and Zombie's wife Sherry Moon Zombie is only mildly annoying.  That's saying something, if you've seen the rest of his movies.  All the macabre scenery gets chewed up by the performances in this movie.  You really gotta see it.

 INTERMISSION

We're serving up some gruesome Grind-Fu Cinema cake at intermission.  Believe us when we say that you've never seen cakes like these.  Our Grind-Fu cake artist Amber Rahe goes all out to create these nightmarish delicacies.  Here are some examples of previous Grind-Fu cakes to get your curiosity running wild.  What does she have in store for us this year?  You'll have to wait and see!

After everyone is full of cake and lulled into a false sense of security, we'll be unleashing Rob Zombie's second terrifying movie...

The Devil's Rejects (2005)
Directed by Rob Zombie

Two years after House of 1000 Corpses, Rob Zombie directed The Devil's Rejects, a film that reels in the over the top visuals from his first movie while it doubles down on the seedy grittiness.  We're once again following the messed up family from HO1000C as they leave a trail of carnage across the country.  The main difference between the two movies is that Zombie is clearly framing the family as anti-heroes, because even the good guys (law enforcement) are morally repugnant.  Like the first one, though, we're treated to insane performances, and you'll likely find yourself sucked into the bizarre story, but that might just be because you'll be coming down from your Grind-Fu cake sugar rush.

COSTUMES

Don't forget to dress in costumes! They're not required, but this is a Halloween double feature, so they're absolutely encouraged.  At the very least your Grind-Fu hosts will be dressed up, so don't worry that you'll be the only one that's dressed for the occasion!
