City of Mankato update on road closings and debris cleaning
City staff are continuing to monitor river levels and assess damages from Friday’s flash flooding. The public’s safety is a priority. The river is projected to crest at 28.3 feet on Tuesday, June 25.
As of 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, the following closures are in place:
- Warren Street is closed between Riverfront Drive and Front Street.
- Basset Drive is closed near Fair Street.
- Land of Memories Park is closed. Campground reservations and events at Land of Memories Park have been cancelled through July 7.
- Kiwanis Recreation Area will be closed Sunday evening.
- Mni Waste Park is closed.
For safety, do not enter closed parks or trails. Do not walk or bike beyond barriers. Although the water may look calm, there are often dangerous currents.
The City has received a number of resident reports of flooded basements. To report a flooded basement, sanitary sewer backup or to report a tree down in the roadway or on public property, residents should continue to contact the Emergency Operations Center at 507-387-8788 until Monday at 8 a.m. After 8 a.m. Monday, the Emergency Operations Center line will be discontinued and residents will need to contact 311 or 507-387-8600.
What to Do with Flood-Damaged Debris
A debris drop-off site has been designed at 155 Sakatah Drive for Mankato residents only. Mankato residents can bring flood-damaged household waste (damaged personal goods) and construction and demolition debris removed by the homeowner to the site Monday through Friday, June 24-28, between noon and 8 p.m. Residents should enter the debris site from Riverfront Drive/Lime Valley Road.
Residents should place organic debris, such as branches, wood or other vegetation, at the curbside for City staff to pick up. For trees on private property that have fallen as a result of flooding, residents will need to call a licensed arborist for tree removal.
