Writing Fellows Program
The Writing Fellows Program is the signature faculty development program offered by Writing Across the Curriculum. This program gives faculty dedicated time to develop the writing component in a course that they teach.
Designed for new and experienced faculty alike, the Writing Fellows program caters to teachers who want to feel the impact of the program on their teaching immediately. Participants leave the program with ideas and materials that they can incorporate into their teaching right away.
Writing Fellows cohorts meet once a week for six weeks in the Center for Excellence and Innovation. This format allows teachers to work through the program efficiently. The program relies on a cycle of reading, discussion, material preparation, faculty peer review, and revision to acquaint participants with best practices in writing instruction and to facilitate classroom application.
At the conclusion of the program, Fellows assemble a capstone project that highlights their achievements through the program. Fellows also present on their learning at the Writing Fellows Showcase, where they share their accomplishments with the Writing Advisory Committee, department chairs, and other advocates for writing on campus.
All participants receive a complimentary copy of John Bean’s popular text Engaging Ideas: The Professor’s Guide to Integrating Writing, Critical Thinking, and Active Learning in the Classroom. The Writing Fellows Program is relevant to Professional Development Plan sections 1, 3, and 4.
