Spanish (MS)
Summary
The degree is offered on-campus with face-to-face and hybrid courses.
The MS Spanish degree is for broad training in Spanish language, literature, linguistics and cultures of Spanish-speaking countries and is suited for students who plan to teach at the post-secondary level or pursue additional graduate study. Students interested in teaching at the college level should see their advisor about identifying appropriate methods courses and professional education courses to strengthen their teaching performance. Licensure is not required to teach at the college level, but courses in teaching skills are highly recommended. Students in this degree program read broadly and take a comprehensive masters examination near the end of their program. They conduct research for a Thesis or Alternate Plan Paper as their capstone experience. Students in this program also take World Language Teaching methods course(s) and professional education courses (selected in consultation with an advisor). These students are highly encouraged to seek a graduate teaching assistantship in teaching Spanish or to conduct an internship in College teaching while they are completing this degree. The MS Spanish graduate degree program is delivered on the Mankato campus and is also appropriate for international students who desire to complete a Masters degree at a US Institution. Fifty percent of the credits must be taken at the 600 level (excluding thesis and APP credits).
