March 17: Maverick Vocal Precision Competing at Acapocalypse Competition

MANKATO, Minn. – The Minnesota State University, Mankato Maverick Vocal Precision a cappella group has been selected to compete in the Acapocalypse vocal music competition/festival on March 17 in Port Washington, Wisconsin. The group will be competing against top college a cappella groups from the Upper Midwest. Cash prizes will be awarded to top groups, outstanding soloists and best vocal percussionist.
Following the competition is an a cappella festival filled with clinics and a cappella performances.
Maverick Vocal Precision has performed in multiple a cappella festivals and competitions regionally and nationally. Most notable is their recent winning performance at the SingStrong NY competition, where they won a $1,000 prize. Following the competition, the vocal group took part in a recording session in Manhattan with award-winning vocalist/recording engineer Andrew Kim. Kim is a member of the New York City-based singing group Iris, winners of the 2018 International A Cappella Open Championship that took place at Carnegie Hall.
Maverick Vocal Precision is directed by music professors Douglas Snapp and Stephanie Thorpe, who combine their backgrounds in jazz, voice and contemporary styles. The Minnesota State Mankato Music Department is one of the few programs in the United States to offer a cappella ensembles as part of their regular music curriculum. Many Minnesota State Mankato music students have gone on to successful careers in film, television, Broadway shows, and professional touring ensembles.
