Interim Dean of Global Education Anne Dahlman and South Central College Colleague Honored
Mankato, Minn. -- Anne Dahlman (pictured at right), interim dean of global education at Minnesota State University, Mankato, and Kimberly Johnson, associate vice president, of effective teaching and learning at South Central College, are the recipients of the Harold B. Allen Award. The award comes from MinneTESOL, the premier professional association for English as a Second Language (ESL) professionals in Minnesota. It is given to members who have demonstrated particular dedication to the profession and to the organization.
Johnson and Dahlman are being recognized for their "innovation and leadership in developing a premiere regional journal." Between 2012 and 2017, Dahlman and Johnson created a new vision for the MinneTESOL Journal, leading the transition from a static online journal with limited circulation into an interactive, open access, practitioner-oriented academic journal.
The award is named for Harold B. Allen, a professor from the University of Minnesota and noted linguist, who was the founder and first president of the international TESOL organization in 1966. MinneTESOL focuses on second language learners in K-12, adult, postsecondary, and teacher education contexts advocating for high-quality teaching, research, and educational equity for refugees, immigrants, and international students.
Dahlman and Johnson (on right in photo at left) have served in multiple leadership positions in with MinneTESOL. Currently, they both serve as senior editors emeritus on the MinneTESOL Journal Editorial Board. In the past, Dahlman has served as MinneTESOL’s president and Johnson has served as the organization’s conference chair.
