Minnesota State Mankato to Celebrate Research of Faculty, Staff, Students in April During University's 3rd Annual Research Month
April 27 Art of Equity Symposium to highlight work to reduce equity gaps
Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota State University, Mankato is holding its third annual “Research Month” throughout April to showcase the multitude of research, scholarly and creative activity that occurs at the University.
The public is invited to access many events for free either in-person or online through an online calendar. Among this year’s events is an Art of Equity Symposium on April 27 from 9-11 a.m. in Memorial Library (1st floor near circulation desk) or on Zoom. The symposium is free to the public and will feature faculty researchers who have worked to reduce equity gaps in gateway courses.
In addition, the University’s Research Month Web page has links to the many research, creative and scholarly activities happening at Minnesota State Mankato. In its inaugural year in 2021, the Research Month website attracted 2,258 visitors.
A series of new Research Month video messages from Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs David Hood and the University’s academic deans has been posted online.
Minnesota State Mankato President Edward Inch said that the month is an opportunity to celebrate research across campus.
“Research month is a tremendous opportunity to highlight the work of our faculty and students,” said Inch. “Engaged together in research, our faculty and students explore topics important to our communities and the broader world. I’m excited to celebrate their ideas and be inspired by the work they share during Research Month.”
One of the student-related research events during the month is the Undergraduate Research Symposium on Thursday, April 20, an in-person event that is hosted by Minnesota State Mankato’s Undergraduate Research Center. There will also be an online (asynchronous) version of the Undergraduate Research Symposium for those unable to attend the in-person event. 2023 Distinguished Faculty Scholar Recipients
Teri Wallace, interim associate vice president for research and dean of extended campus, Daniel Houlihan, director of the Center for Excellence in Scholarship and Research, and the members of the Faculty Research Committee recently announced the 2023 Distinguished Faculty Scholar award recipients: Kevin Filter (Department of Psychology), Rachel Cohen (Department of Biological Sciences) and Vincent Winstead (Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Technology).
Awardees will be recognized at this year’s Celebration of Excellence event on April 24 as part of Minnesota State Mankato’s Research Month.
